After all the equipment housed in these racks is not inexpensive, and the data your network hardware holds may be invaluable. So select a network rack that is functional, durable and high quality - this is not an area to skimp. From a practical standpoint, we'll consider the five things to keep in mind when selecting network rack. Weight and Dimensions of Your Network Hardware The first thing you want to look at is the actual physical dimensions and weight of your network equipment. Once you have identified the physical dimensions you can begin looking for a server cabinet. You will need a cabinet to can handle the hardware with the largest dimensions. You may also want to allow for expansion and growth. You should consider a network storage solution that will accommodate these future hardware purchases. Commonly, there three types of racks and network cabinets:
Usable Rack Mount Space The usable mounting space or dimensions are different from the network rack or cabinets dimensions. What this refers to are the dimensions inside the mounting area of the server racks. It is a good idea to allow extra space in front and behind the network equipment mounted inside the cabinet for cables, cords and accessories. If the hardware has power cables, network cables, fiber duct etc. Access to Your Network Hardware You should also consider how your equipment will be accessed and if you need a server rack to accommodate those access areas. Most hardware will only require front access. Some equipment however, may require side or rear access. So consider hardware accessibility when you set out to buy server racks.
